Prisoners of War

Prisoners of War (International Committee of the Red Cross Archives)

Digitized documents from various prisons of war, including postcards, reports on camp life, soldiers’ accounts, death notices, and other records. During the First World War, 10 million servicemen and civilians were captured and sent to detention camps. The belligerent countries involved provided lists of prisoners to the ICRC, which created an index card for each prisoner and detainee.
